My name is Vanessa Castro and I attend Harry S. Truman high school. One of my teachers told me about this program and how it can really benefit me in the future. I was really interested in doing this because I wanted to learn about media and how it works. One thing I learned was that media is not only instagram, facebook, twitter, media is all around us like books, newspapers magazines. Also media is a way you can catch someone attention and you can spread a message that would impact somene.By doing this program I have learned so much things and I feel like I have a better mind set of seeing things. By doing this I have gone through some challenges. Even tho there were a couple, I got through it and never gave up. One of the challenges was that I have no clue how to use a computer. I had many hardships trying to find things the professors assigned and sending emails. The more we used the computers the more I learned and catched on and it started to get easier for me. I could find things that we needed to complete and I even learned how to send a email. One of my favorite things we did was making our own website. I feel like this was my favorite thing to do because it was all about me and I had a chance to talk about my experience and all the stuff i’ve done.

          We decided to make a group website about violence. We chose violence because it has been occurring a lot lately and we want to change people’s person perspective so that we can all do something about it as a community. I learned about all the violence that occurs in our communities and society and why people are violent. Either they grew up in a bad environment or there homes weren’t so good.Violence happens on a daily basis and people are starting to realize that we need to do something about it and get justice for all. This issue is so import because so many people are being killed everyday and there is going to be a point where this world is going to be filled with just hatred and we cannot let that happen because what will be of our future then. Something that activists and community members are doing to adress this issue is making organizations for people to join and communicate with each other. Also they are having many campaigns.

          The website was very successful. It was well organized and very created. I love how Pedro drew the gun and how they came up with a logo. It was very beautiful. If we had more time I would add more details  more pictures and more decorations.

          My experience in this program was amazing. I enjoyed it very much and I learned a lot and I feel like I am ready for my freshman year in college. I would recommend other students in high school to do this. One thing i would show my high school teachers is Office 365 (Pdf) and how we can use it and we can use it to communicate with each other and receive messages.
